Dallas Suicide Death – Man Jumped Off Texas Bridge After Police Standoff

Dallas Suicide –  A person died Thursday after jumping from a bridge during an hours-long police standoff that brought traffic to a standstill at the I-45 and I-20 interchange in southern Dallas.

Dallas police responded at about 9:40 a.m. to the area near the eastbound LBJ Freeway ramp and northbound Julius Schepps Freeway in the Hutchins area, according to The Dallas Morning News. The person was reportedly standing near the edge of the bridge beside a silver-colored sedan.

Officers spent several hours trying to speak with the person. During the response, police closed the interchange to traffic, beginning around 10 a.m. The closure also affected eastbound I-20 beneath the bridge. Police later confirmed that the person had died at the scene.

The closures caused backups stretching for miles on both interstates and disrupted travel across a major southern Dallas County corridor. At least a dozen police and emergency vehicles were seen at the scene as the incident unfolded.

Dallas police urged motorists on X to avoid I-45 in both directions and I-20 eastbound and westbound. The department suggested alternate routes including Loop 12, Wintergreen Road, South Lancaster Road and S.M. Wright Freeway, also known as Highway 310.
The roads had reopened by about 6:15 p.m., according to Texas Department of Transportation camera footage.

No other injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released further details about the person who died.
